Founded in Rio de Janeiro on September 27th 1973, the FIAB groups the 25 most important exchanges and markets of Latin America, Spain and Portugal, and among them, the Caracas Stock Exchange. Its mission is help the development and improvement of the stock markets and their integration, with the goal of expanding the transactions en country members, trying that they be done with suitability, legitimacy, with transparent information for the investors. Guillermo Prieto, the representative of Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, is FIAB's President for the period 2003/2005. Gilberto Mifano, General Superintendent of Bolsa de Valores de San Pablo, is the Vice-president. Elvira Schamann is the General Secretary.

The Fiab is conformed by 22 stock exchanges from América and the Iberian Peninsula: Bolsa de Comercio de Buenos Aires, Mercado de Valores de Buenos Aires Merval, Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario, Mercado de Valores de Rosario (Argentina), Bolsa de Valores de Río de Janeiro, Bolsa de Valores de Sao Pablo (Brasil), Bolsa de Valores de Colombia (Colombia), Bolsa de Comercio de Santiago, Bolsa de Corredores de Valparaiso (Chile), Bolsa Hondureña de Valores (Honduras), Bolsa Nacional de Valores (Costa Rica), Bolsa de Valores de Guayaquil, Bolsa de Valores de Quito (Ecuador), Bolsa de Valores de El Salvador (El Salvador), Bolsa de Valores de Barcelona, Bolsa de Valores de Bilbao, Bolsa de Valores de Madrid, Bolsa de Valores de Valencia (España), Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (México), Bolsa de Valores de Lima (Perú), Bolsa de Valores de Lisboa y Porto (Portugal) y Bolsa de Valores de Montevideo (Uruguay). Offices of the General Secretariat of the federation are in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Objetives of the FIAB

Foment the collaboration between its members, so as to promote the development and improvement of their respective capital markets, in the best interest of all the participants of them. Cooperate with the national and international entities with legislative, regulative or any competence, in the financial market scope, with the purpose of equalizing the normative on issuing, distribution and registration of values, financial hiring, issuing companies, intermediaries, capital markets, depositary institutions, custody institutions, as well as fiscal regimes, and any other aspects that might be considered interesting for the development of their markets. Promote the integration of the financial markets belonging to the federation, favoring the intervening entities interactivity in such markets, as well as the free circulation of issued values in any of the countries members of the federation. Encourage the norms and procedures that ensure suitability, legitimacy and transparent information to all of those who invest their savings through the Stock Exchanges.
